About The World Tarot Card
The World Card features a naked woman draped in a purple cloth, gracefully dancing within a large laurel wreath. Her gaze is cast back towards the past, while her body moves forward into the future. In her hands, she holds two wands or batons, reminiscent of the one held by The Magician. This symbolizes that what was once manifested by The Magician has now reached fulfillment with The World. The wreath’s circular shape represents the ongoing cycle of completion and renewal—each step forward marks the end of one phase and the immediate beginning of another.
Surrounding the wreath are four figures—a lion, bull, cherub, and eagle—similar to those found on the Wheel of Fortune. Both The World and the Wheel of Fortune emphasize the cyclical nature of life and your journey through its phases. These four figures correspond to the fixed signs of the Zodiac—Leo, Taurus, Aquarius, and Scorpio. They symbolize the four elements, the four Tarot suits, the four cardinal directions, the four seasons, and the four corners of the Universe. Their presence signifies balance and guidance as you transition from one stage of life to the next, ensuring harmony on your path.
